About

A tuition-free home for young string players.

El Sistema Syracuse was founded on a simple conviction: that serious musical training should be available to every child, regardless of their family's means. Inspired by the global El Sistema movement, we provide free private lessons on violin, viola, and cello to low-income students throughout the Syracuse area.

Beyond weekly lessons, our students take part in chamber music coachings, regular performances, and one-on-one mentorship. Our faculty and teaching assistants also guide families through the application and audition processes for schools, youth orchestras, and scholarship programs — often the most daunting hurdles for first-time applicants.

What began as a handful of lessons has grown into a close community of teachers, students, and families who believe in the transformative power of music.

Access

Instruction, instruments, and performance opportunities are provided free of charge so that cost is never a barrier to learning.

Excellence

Students work with committed faculty and teaching assistants who hold every young musician to a high, encouraging standard.

Community

Music is learned together. Ensembles, recitals, and mentorship connect students and families across Syracuse.
